Lost in Translation (and gratuitous pics)

(all pics in this post are from our after-dinner walk on the footpath that is just behind our house. they are gratuitous eye candy and have absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with this post)

Everyone traveling to a foreign country knows that they are bound to encounter certain colloquialisms that perhaps have alternate definitions. We were fortunate enough to run into 2 yesterday that quite literally made me cry with mirth. Again, Jeremy is the recipient. Thank goodness, because I would have completely fallen to pieces.

Scenario 1: in which Jeremy visits the medical practice to meet all the staff...

"We KNEW we were all going to like you because in your picture, you've a stubby in your hand!"

<raucous laughter from the staff...Jeremy standing slightly bewildered as he has no idea what a "stubby" is,  imaging what it could be, and not entirely sure how to respond>

Stubby = Beer

Scenario 2: in which we are at the cellphone store and Jeremy is having a conversation with the sales rep (who was a SUPER nice bloke)...

Jeremy: (random comment)

Rep: Right! Sweet Ass!

<Wait. What!?! Did he seriously just say that? And let me just say that at this point, I almost had to leave the store before I made myself look like a complete lunatic.>

Sweet As (NOT sweet ass) = Cool.

Absolutely fantastic. I'll keep you posted with more as they become available...
