Clifden Bridge

I told you I have a thing for old bridges and that I was going looking for this one.

This is the Clifton Suspension Bridge over the Waiau River.

It was built in 1899 and at one point even carried cars across, before it was re-designated as a pedestrian bridge.

There is a wee trail that can take you through a meadow of wildflowers, down to the water.

These beauties just grow around. Like weeds. Completely unattended, and thriving.

I've spent a blinking fortune trying to establish Foxgloves in my garden, with no luck. And here, you can't even kill them.

Evergreens and beech trees stand over the riverbanks. Once you pass through the larger outer trees, you're suddenly transported to Middle Earth.

Everything is coated in ultra green spongy moss. (this is NOT a filter) Sunlight trickles down in a few places, but most everything is steeped in a chartreuse glow.

New Zealand Falcons hover above it all. With these guys...

These are our new friends.

They give kisses.

    1. Regular sized! I had no idea they could be that sweet. The wildflowers here are insane. We took an after-dinner walk at the beach last night, and our trail went through a field of lupines (yellow bush). Almost 5 feet tall. The smell was intoxicating.
